A 'geek chic' science experiment book

Steve Spangler is of my all-time favorite clients. How can you not love a guy who after signing on with us sent every department in the company explosive confetti and streamers!

I first wrote about this project here. Steve came to us with a clear concept of what he wanted his book to be—clean, bold, and sophisticated. He dubbed this look "geek chic." Bucking the trend in his genre (see examples here and here), Steve did not want a book that looked juvenile in any way. We worked together on developing the photographic style and on making the visual instruction as simple yet helpful as possible.

Below is the fantastic YouTube book trailer Steve's team produced and some page spreads I designed. And check out the holographic foil we used on the cover's subtitle. (Got to cross that one off my printing technology bucket list!)

What do you think of this look and feel? Does it appeal to you more than a more cartoony or overtly kid-focused style?
